Marie-Lynn likes to work with cool, friendly trailblazers who make their own way in the world.
In 2007, Marie-Lynn moved into a little white house, set up her office in an upstairs room with a view of the garden, and, like her favorite clients, started her business as the Friendly Webmaster. Doing what she loves, she now gets to work with more solopreneurs and small business entrepreneurs. She works primarily with Artists, Coaches, Real Estate Agents and Health Professionals. Working with these self-directed, 21st-century professionals has enriched her life tremendously.
She not only brings her maturity and experience, but also her unrivaled technical knowledge. But what’s even better, a solopreneur herself, she understands EXACTLY what you’re going through. She knows what you’re trying to do; she knows how to help you create your own one person brand, just like she created hers.
Born in historic Quebec City, Marie-Lynn Richard has been working with technology since she got her first BASIC programming diploma at the age of 9. She’s been developing Web sites on the Internet since the beginning (of the Internet, not Quebec City, which is celebrating its 400th birthday this year!).
She began her career officially in mid-1995 when the first Internet provider in Quebec City needed a Webmaster to build a large trilingual website for the prestigious Organization of World Heritage Cities (UNESCO). After moving to Montreal in 1997, she worked as a free agent. In the past 11 years, she’s chosen her projects based on her interest in new and intriguing technologies and companies who operate in fascinating areas of business.
Marie-Lynn has worked with great companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb and Air Canada, and she’s tackled projects in the fields of education, e-Learning and publishing as a project manager, programmer, a Web application architect and Internet marketing strategist. It speaks volumes to know that most of her contracts have come from word-of-mouth and referrals from former clients, employees or employers.
Mastering database administration (DBA) and complex programming, she has built over 250 websites, juggled databases with half a million entries, built search engines and “screen-scraping” programs for RSS and AJAX applications and she’s tinkered with every new API, usually just for the heck of it. If you don’t know what any of these things are, don’t worry about it. You don’t need to, because Marie-Lynn does.
Since the birth of her daughter in late 2000, she has been determined not to miss these important years. Looking around, she realized that there were plenty of people, solopreneurs just like her, who wanted to create a life where you didn’t need to choose work OR family. What’s more, she realized that they need her help.
